Deirdre, I just have to thank you so much for the last individual session I had with you.    I’ve always experienced great relief with all our sessions but last week’s was the most transformational Craniosacral Therapy session I have ever had in all my time.    I was in the depths of despair and you gave me back my hope.    Thank you so, so much.

craniosacralWhat is it and what does it involve?

Cranio-Sacral Therapy is an exceptionally gentle and non-invasive, yet extremely powerful form of health treatment, increasingly recognized for the depth of its influence, the comprehensive range of its therapeutic effects, and for its ability to resolve issues that are not helped by other means.

It is a hands-on therapy. For treatment, you will usually lie on a treatment couch – fully clothed – and experience the very light touch of the practitioner’s hands, both for diagnosis and for treatment.

You may feel a deep sense of relaxation, and possibly become aware of heat, tingling, pulsations or other sensations as the treatment progresses. These are all signs that the body is releasing unhealthy restrictions, and are welcome indicators that the healing process is taking place.

How does it work?

In response to physical knocks and injuries, emotional or mental stress, our body’s tissues contract. When left unattended, this contraction can hinder the healthy functioning of the body, and over time will lead to different health issues. The effects may be physical (such as back pain, headaches or digestive disorders) and/or emotional (such as anxiety or depression). The role of the Cranio-Sacral Therapist is to identify areas of restricted mobility and dis-ease and to enable the body to dissolve any such restrictions. This restoration of unrestricted tissue mobility gives rise to the free-flow of craniosacral fluid allowing the nervous system to perform at its best. By freeing the Central Nervous System in this way, CST naturally eliminates pain and disease, strengthens your immune system, and enhances your health and well-being.

Somato-emotional Release

Somato-emotional Release is often combined with CST to resolve any emotional component of a health issue, and can be helpful in illuminating, in a very safe way, emotional issues that may have been holding up a client’s healing process for years. Somato-emotional Release draws on mind-body techniques such as tai-chi, yogic breathing, empathetic touch, visualization, and dialogue to remove residuary patterns formed in the body tissue and mind. All of these therapies are known to be effective singly. Together, they are extremely beneficial. With a client’s permission it can be seamlessly incorporated into the CST body therapy and be tailored to the client’s comfort and sensitivity needs.

SER can offer an added layer of the healing puzzle; This can be of great assistance in helping to develop a client’s capacity to experience a sense of completion, resolution, or peace in body and mind. which is sometimes necessary for a client to feel fully complete, resolved and at peace in body and mind.

Who comes for a session

People from all walks of life, from the very young to the old and infirm, and all the stages in between can benefit from a Cranio-sacral Therapy session. Because this Therapy has such an affinity and effect on the nervous system and thus the brain, the results are far-reaching and wide.

On a muscular level physical ailments:

  • Sciatica, back and neck pain, headaches, jaw tension and T.M.J. can all be treated very effectively.

On a neurological level:

  • Brain and spinal cord injuries
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Motor-co-ordination impairments, – dyspraxia
  • Central nervous systgem disorders
  • Scoliosis

Stress-related illness:

  • Digestive disorders
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Migranes
  • Sinus problems
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder and emotional difficulties

With women I often treat those going through the menopausal years to help ease and balance the hormonal changes, and at the other end of the spectrum, younger women suffering from P.M.T.

With children I see improvements in conditions that make learning difficult as in dyspraxia, dyslexia, aspergers and children on the autistic spectrum. Also those with A.D.H.D. and children with hyper sensitivity.

Babies can benefit hugely from a treatment, from early on, and those with symptoms of colic, sleeplessness, poor sucking reflex, and crying fits can all benefit hugely.

If you would like to call to talk with me I offer a free 15 minute consultation either by phone or in person at my Clinic – my contact no for setting up this free consultation is 086 251 0856.
